Old Acquaintance Day
11th July 2009

Leixlip Handball Club continued its 25 th Anniversary celebrations in fine style on Saturday 11th July with one its major events, the Old Acquaintance Day, when the club played host to the many clubs and individuals with whom it has developed close associations and friendships over the years.
Highlight of a varied and entertaining programme was the Banquet /Variety Function which was attended by Uachtarán Chomhairle Liathróid Láimhe na hÉireann,Tony Hannon and by Chris Curran, National Manager and which featured the launch of the club's anniversary publication ‘Lorg Láimhe, Tradition in the Making'. The publication was launched by the former National Administrator of the Irish Handball Council, Lorcán Ó Ruairc who provided a detailed overview of its contents and commended the range and quality of the subject matter. “A celebration of 25 five years of handball success in Leixlip and of handball in general - but with a strong emphasis on the future” was how Lorcán described it. The publication is on sale at €10 in Leixlip GAA Club and it is intended also to have copies available in local shops very shortly.
The programme for the day also provided an opportunity for old friends and adversaries to renew acquaintance on the handball court and a series of games took place which included the appearance of World Ladies Champion, Fiona Shannon, who will be defending her title in the World championships in Portland, Oregon, in October next. Musical entertainment was provided throughout the afternoon and contributed to the creation of a welcoming and festive atmosphere.
The reaction to the overall event was very positive indeed and the club would like to take the opportunity to thank all those both within the club and outside of it, whose help and support contributed to the making of a memorable occasion.
