Youth Coaching

Since the foundation of Leixlip Handball Club, the primary focus of club policy has been on youth development . The club has achieved much competitive success nationally and internationally at youth level and looks forward to continuing that success. What is most important of all however, is to ensure that as many young people as possible learn the skills and develop a love of the game.

Coaching Programme 2011 is providing over 20 coaching hours per week to upwards of 40 boys and girls and is supplemented by a strong parent input to play supervision.

The Objectives

That all our young players be given the best possible opportunity to acquire the basic skills to enable them get maximum enjoyment from playing the game.
That the emphasis at all times be on skills, sportsmanship and good behaviour, both within and outside the handball court.
That all players involved in external competition will have acquired an acceptable level of basic skills and fitness.
That opportunities for competitive activity be spread as widely as possible and not be confined solely to the stronger players.
That all players develop healthy and decent competitive instincts, with a pride in the jersey and a strong will to win.
That the social and personal development of all players be enhanced through their participation in the activities of the club.
That an environment be developed within the community in which our players will find it worthwhile and self-enhancing to play handball
That the rates of retention of our players in the game be improved, particularly within the older age-groups.
