Handball Happenings in Leixlip - 21st December, 2010

Club Juvenile Awards
The club's main hall was packed to capacity with youngsters, parents and club officials on Saturday afternoon last for one of the big days of the juvenile calendar, the annual presentation of medals and awards for achievements throughout the year. Special handball guest for the occasion was Niall O'Connor who together with Kildare football and hurling stars Hugh McGrillen, Tommy Moolick and John Doran did the presentation honours for the award winners. Handball was well represented with All-Ireland, Leinster and Féile winners on hand to receive their accolades for their contribution to what was a very successful year.

Congrats to Saoirse!
Congrats to Saoirse Sunderland who has just been named as this year's winner of the 'My Nationals Experience' competition for entrants to the Junior Nationals. The competition was run by the National GAA Handball council and dozens of young handballers across the country entered. Below is Saoirse's 'winning' experience:
"Three months before the 2010 Junior Nationals, I started my nationals training programme. We trained five days a week and my training was going very well until it came to my agility and fitness training. It was four days before the nationals and I was running backwards in the alley and fell on my wrist. We went to the doctor and he said I had fractured my wrist. I was so gutted. Even though I had to drop out of the 13 and Under B, I still went along to support the rest of the girls, but unfortunately none of them won. Maybe next year!"

Leixlip Handball Club on TG4
Following on from last Friday’s (17th Dec) GAA Handball show on TG4, Leixlip Handball Club will feature in the first of a 6 part series of handball programmes to start in the New Year. As winners of the 2009 National Club of the Year, Niamh Egan, National Handball Promotions Officer, visited the club with a camera crew in tow and conducted interviews with some of the club members. Many of our juvenile players were there on the day and were filmed training and playing some matches. The programme will be aired on January 3rd at 8:30pm – Not to be missed!
